Ayman al-Zawahri, al-Qa'eda's second in command, has defended the group's terror tactics and insisted that Osama bin Laden is in good health.
The ninety-minute audio interview, released on Wednesday with a 46-page English transcript, was the first instalment of answers to a raft of on-line questions submitted on extremist websites.

"We haven't killed the innocents, not in Baghdad nor in Morocco, nor in Algeria, nor anywhere else," he said, according to the transcript, in response to the question "excuse me, Mr Zawahri, but who is it who is killing with Your Excellency's blessing the innocents in Baghdad, Morocco and Algeria?"

"If there is any innocent who was killed in the Mujahideen's operations, then it was either an unintentional error or out of necessity," Zawahri added, saying that it was al-Qa'eda's enemies who killed the innocent, "intentionally [taking] up positions in the midst of the Muslims for them to be human shields for him".

Al-Qa'eda claimed responsibility in 2001 for the 9/11 terror attacks on New York, which killed 3,000 people, while groups associated with the organisation have carried out several bombings in Iraq, Afghanistan and Algeria, killing thousands of people.

Zawahri also addressed the issue of Osama bin Laden's reported frailty, assuring supporters that the al-Qa'eda leader was in good health.

"Sheikh Osama bin Laden is healthy and well, by the grace of Allah," he said, while acknowledging his mortality. "He must die one day, whereas Allah's religion will remain."

Though the tape could not be independently verified, the message bore the logo of the Al-Qaida's media arm, al-Sahab, and appeared on Web sites linked to the organization.

Story books designed to discourage children from bullying homosexuals have been withdrawn from two primary schools after an outcry from Muslim parents.

One of the books, which was aimed at pupils as young as five, featured the story of a king who could not find a suitable woman to be his wife so he married a prince instead.

Members of Bristol Muslim Cultural Society in Bristol said parents were not outraged by the school’s anti-bullying policies but were frustrated by the lack of consultation.

Farooq Siddique, the community development officer for Bristol Muslim Cultural Society and a governor at Bannerman Road, said many schoolchildren - 70 per cent of whom are Muslim - were too young to define heterosexuality and homosexuality.

“In Islam homosexual relationships are not acceptable, as they are not in Christianity and many other religions, but the main issue is that they didn’t bother to consult with parents. There was no option to withdraw the child.

“Homosexuality is not a priority to parents, but academic achievement is. This just makes parents think 'What the heck is my child being taught at school?’.”

Julia Walton, a spokeswoman for Bristol City Council’s education department, said: “All Bristol schools have a legal duty to report and deal with homophobic harassment as part of the curriculum since April 2007.

“As part of this, schools can choose to seek specialist advice and training on topics such as homophobia.

“Bristol City Council has temporarily withdrawn the use of materials that can be used to explain homophobia to children to ensure that both Bannerman Road and Easton primary schools can meet their legal responsibilities and operate safely.

“We are now liaising with local clerics, teachers’ unions, the Institute of Community Cohesion and the Equality and Human Rights Commission to ensure that the topic can be addressed in an inclusive manner in the curriculum." (No mention of the white European community's desires you notice!)

Immigrants Protest At Westminster Migration statistics are 'misleading'

An inquiry by the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee said the Government had "overstated the economic benefits of immigration".

It also said the Government should set an explicit target for the number of people allowed into the country.
Inquiry chairman Lord Wakeham told Sky News: "We recognise that immigrants to this country do a good job, but there is no economic benefit to the resident population and it is damaging to low-paid workers."

The report called current migration statistics "irrelevant and misleading" and said more work is needed to assess the true impact on local authorities.
Government claims that immigration is needed to prevent labour shortages have also been criticised for being "fundamentally flawed".

The Committee said the Govenrmnet should review its immigration policies and explain their reasons for them.
Committee member Lord Layard said: "The Government should set a target range for net immigration.
Lord Wakeham chaired inquiry

"Looking to the future, if you have got that increase in numbers and you haven't got any economic benefit from it, you have got to ask yourself is this a wise thing to do?"

Immigration minister Liam Byrne said the report was welcome.

"It proves we were right to set up the independent Migration Advisory Committee to tell us which workers our new Australian-style points system should keep out or let in."

Shadow home secretary David Davis welcomed the report's suggestion of a cap on non-EU migrants.

He said: "This is a policy that we have been arguing for for years and which the Government has consistently rejected."

A child prodigy who was one of the youngest students to be admitted to Oxford University is now working as a prostitute in Manchester, it has been claimed.


Sufiah Yusof was just 13 years old when she was admitted to the prestigious university to study mathematics.

But 10 years on, Miss Yusof now earns £130 an hour working as a prostitute from her flat in Salford, Manchester, according to the News of the World.
The newspaper claims it sent an undercover reporter to the 23-year-old's home, where Miss Yusof, who allegedly works under the name Shilpa Lee, described the services she reportedly offered.
On her website, she is alleged to have described herself as a "very pretty size 8, 32D bust and 5'5'' tall - available for bookings every day from 11am to 8pm." The website has since been shut down.
The gifted student sparked a massive police hunt in 2001 when, at the age of 15, she ran away from Oxford after passing her end-of-term examinations at St Hilda's College.

At the time she sent her family an e-mail, accusing her father of making her life "a living hell" and of putting her through "15 years of physical and emotional abuse".
Mr Yusof denied that he had pushed Sufiah too hard and implied that she was being told what to say by those controlling her.
Police later found her living in Bournemouth, posing as a student among the 30,000 foreigners who go to the seaside resort each year to study English.

Monsignor Vittorio Formenti, who compiled the Vatican's newly-released 2008 yearbook of statistics, said Muslims made up 19.2 percent of the world's population and Catholics 17.4 percent.

"For the first time in history we are no longer the worlds no1 brand: the Muslims have overtaken us," Formenti told Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano in an interview, saying the data referred to 2006.

He said that if all Christian groups were considered, including Orthodox churches, Anglicans and Protestants, then Christians made up 33 percent of the world's population -- or about 2 billion people.

The Vatican recently put the number of Catholics in the world at 1.13 billion people. It did not provide a figure for Muslims, generally estimated at around 1.3 billion.

Formenti said that while the number of Catholics as a proportion of the world's population was fairly stable, the percentage of Muslims was growing because of higher birth rates.

He said the data on Muslim populations had been compiled by individual countries and then released by the United Nations, adding the Vatican could only vouch for its own statistics.

Symbolic gesture in pensions dispute

Organisers say those involved feel they have no other choice but to take the action.

Retired Gurkha Major Dhanbar Ghale said that the men were only asking to be treated fairly.

"Many face been thrown out of the country they fought for - is that really fair?"

Gurkhas - soldiers from Nepal - have been part of the British Army for almost 200 years.

Currently only those that retired after 1997 have the right to apply for indefinite leave to remain in the country.

This means many who have served more than 25 years in the British Army and seen active combat do not have the right to settle in the UK.

Pension rights for years of service before 1997 are also dramatically lower than for service after that time.

Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg spoke at the protest in Parliament Square ahead of Prime Minister's Questions when he will raise the issue.

He told Sky News: "The treatment of these brave men is a national disgrace, and the government should be ashamed."

A 15-YEAR-OLD girl who used a mobile phone to film a man being beaten to death in a “cruel and revolting” attack was locked up today in what is believed to be the first case of its kind.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, sobbed (oh those big bull Dykes will love her little sweet meat) as she was sentenced to a two-year detention and training order at Leeds Crown Court for her part in the manslaughter of Gavin Waterhouse in September last year.

Judge James Stewart QC said the courts had to make an example of youths like her in order to try to make changes in society.

The girl pleaded guilty to manslaughter as an aider and abettor at a hearing last month after admitting she had filmed two teenage youths kicking and punching Mr Waterhouse in an unprovoked attack behind a supermarket in Keighley, West Yorkshire.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the conviction was thought to be the first of its kind in England and Wales.

A spokeswoman said at the time: “As far as I am aware, this is the first time a suspect in England and Wales has been successfully prosecuted for aiding and abetting murder or manslaughter, for the filming of an inaptly called ‘happy slapping’ incident.”

Sentencing the girl, Judge Stewart said: “I’ve received a most moving letter from your mother about the way you were brought up and the short-comings of modern society.

“But it is only by making an example of youths like you that the court can do its best to try and change things.”

Mr Waterhouse, 29, was attacked by Mark Masters, 19, of Parkwood Rise, Keighley, and Sean Thompson, 17, of Parkside Terrace, Cullingworth, Bradford, who both pleaded guilty to manslaughter at an earlier hearing.

The mother of a British teenager, who was raped and murdered last month in Goa said on Wednesday that she was worried at the possibility of police charging her with neglect for leaving her daughter alone.

Scarlett Keeling, 15, was found dead on a beach in Goa in February, and her mother was away in the southern Indian state of Karnataka then, according to police.

"I am worried at these reports and the police is deflecting the real issue and taking the focus away by saying that I neglected my daughter which is not true," Fiona MacKeown told Reuters from Goa.

"She was not alone and was under the care of a very responsible person. The police is only trying to cover up the case and I don't have any faith in them."

A police officer said charging MacKeown for neglect was a possibility but declined to say anything more.

"There are provisions under Indian laws to charge her with neglect," said Kishan Kumar, a senior police officer handling the case.

"That is a possibility, but we are not saying anything more now".

The Supreme Court lawyer Vikram Varma, who has been working for Ms MacKeown, told News agency's he was shocked by the latest developments.

"Then this morning when I spoke to the police inspector he told me Fiona needed to be brought to a police station for questioning.

"They seem to be saying all right it was murder, but perhaps she is to blame.

Ms MacKeown has maintained there is a conspiracy around her daughter's death.

She has sent her other children back to Britain.

She has demanded that the Indian Central Bureau of Investigation look into the death of Scarlett. She plans to stay on in India pursuing her eldest daughter's case.

A bartender called Samson de Souza has been remanded in custody for 14 days in connection with Scarlett's rape and murder.

Ms MacKeown wants to try to organise the repatriation of Scarlett's body back to the family home near Bideford in Devon as soon as possible, but has been told there may be further tests required on her body.

At least two peers are on a stolen list obtained by the authorities of suspected tax evaders with secret bank accounts in Liechtenstein, it has emerged.

Reports that as many as 40 members of the House of Lords appear on the dossier, which was controversially bought from a banking whistleblower, have been dismissed as wildly inflated.

But The Daily Telegraph has learned that a small number of peers are included on the list of Britons with secret bank accounts in the tiny European tax haven of Liechtenstein.

The whistleblower, a former worker at the LGT bank, was paid £100,000 for the names by HM Customs and Revenue, having already sold a similar list of German clients to the authorities there for as much as £3.5 million.

Liechtenstein has long been used by millionaires seeking to evade taxes because of its tight banking secrecy. Although it is expensive to open an account there, it is possible to stash millions away from the authorities without anyone knowing.

The late newspaper mogul Robert Maxwell is among those who hid his crooked dealings in Liechtenstein, along with Saddam Hussein, the former Iraqi dictator, and the drugs baron Pablo Escobar.

The presence of even one peer in the dossier would be a severe embarrassment, as the House of Lords votes on tax laws among other legislation. A spokesman for the TaxPayers' Alliance said: "It is obviously wrong if someone is voting on the taxes the rest of us have to pay, but then not obeying the law themselves.

"It is crucially important that our politicians have to pay the same tax as anyone else - that is the only way they can appreciate the severe burden of taxation and the damaging impact it is having on ordinary people's lives."

A man beheaded his nephew, aged just fifteen months, in front of his mother in a crowded Saudi Arabian supermarket, a newspaper in the country has reported.

According to Arab News, the "well-built" 25-year-old man, of Syrian nationality, picked up a large knife from a nearby store and decapitated the infant following a family argument at around 9:30am on Sunday.

The incident, which took place in the fruit and vegetable section of the supermarket in Jeddah, on the Red Sea coast of the country, has shocked the deeply conservative nation.


It is believed the row involved his sister and his brother-in-law. "The murderer was in a dispute with the boy’s mother and her husband. He chopped off the boy's head in front of the mother to get back at her," the English-language daily paper quoted a police officer as saying, on condition of anonymity.

The mother was taken to hospital after she and an onlooker both fainted at the scene.

"It happened so quickly. Before people could intervene, the man had cut more than half-way through the child’s neck," Abu Muhammad, an eyewitness, told Arab News.

Major crackdown on gang violence

The campaign is aimed at cracking down on public order problems
Violence, football hooliganism and public order will be tackled in a major crackdown on gangs.

The campaign, headed by the Violence Reduction Unit, will see police working with gang members and others to combat the problems of violence.

It is part of the Safer Scotland anti-violence campaign and follows on from work carried out to reduce incidents involving knives.

The Scottish Government has pledged £200,000 for this latest phase.

Det Ch Insp Andy McKay, Safer Scotland co-ordinator, said: "This form of violence is prevalent across Scotland and can be fuelled by everything from geographical location and place of residence to football.

"It adds to the feelings of social division and fragmentation in certain areas and it can tear the heart out of a community. It will not be tolerated.

"We are committed to tackling these issues and making our streets safer for everyone. No-one should feel afraid to walk down their own road at night."

Tough enforcement

The money will be used by each police force to help fund programmes aimed at changing attitudes and behaviour.

These include schemes to educate aggressive young men to become less violent, reducing the number of people carrying weapons and preventing young people drinking alcohol.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said: "We need to do more to make sure our young people don't get caught up in gangs and the cycle of drink, drugs, deprivation and crime that it leads to.

"That's why we're investing money seized from criminals to give young people more opportunities through our CashBack for Communities scheme, and providing a pot of £200,000 for forces and their partners to deliver workshops for known gang members.

"Combined with our tough enforcement efforts I believe this can make a real difference - helping to stop people joining gangs and offering a way out to those who are already involved."

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - At least 39 people were killed and scores more injured when a suicide bomber attacked a traditional tribal meeting in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday, officials said.
