Peckham's streets safe for the proles.......

BUT....they are not safe enough for Circus labours GUMMY political elite! (lets face it they know the real figures!!) Ms Harman tells us the streets are safe yet she mentions nothing of the facts "Violent crime in Peckham has gone up by 6.9 per cent" so it is not surprising she has been ridiculed for donning a stab-proof vest to tour her own constituency.

Miss Harman took to the streets of Peckham, south London, yesterday surrounded by several police officers.

But it seems manpower alone wasn't sufficient to make her feel safe on the streets and she was also issued with a kevlar-reinforced jacket.

Her decision has been met with disbelief by constituents.
Beatrice Smith, 63, said despite regular trouble on some of the neighbourhood's estates, locals were never issued stab vests.
"There were two stabbings nearby earlier today, and I'd rather see her spending time sorting the crime problem out than posing in such a ridiculous outfit," she told the Daily Mail.

David Davies, Shadow Home Secretary, said the issue underlined Labour's poor law and order record.
The capital had become "one of the most dangerous cities in the world", he said.
Miss Harman was out on the beat to highlight the increased number of police on the streets of Camberwell and Peckham.
She today insisted that she did not need to wear a stab-proof vest on the streets of south London.
Miss Harman said she met members of one of the neighbourhood police teams in Peckham, discussing their work over a cup of tea.
"Then we went out on the streets and they hitched on their stab vests, I think is what they are called," she told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.
"They were telling me about their new version, (which is) much lighter than the old one so that if they have to chase criminals they can do it much more easily and it doesn't weigh them down.
"And they gave me and my assistant one to wear as well."
She accused the press of misrepresenting the picture, which has also been placed on her website.
"It was just a courtesy, there was no security issue whatsoever, it was almost like wearing the kit when you go out with the team," she said.

Incidents of violent crime in the borough of Southwark, which includes Peckham, have increased by 6.9 per cent in the last 12 months.
